With decades of experience in community engagement\, economic development\, and Arctic policy\, Slajer has worked at the intersection of industry\, government\, and Indigenous communities to promote responsible resource development and collaboration. The series brings together influential voices from across the North to discuss leadership\, policy\, and the future of the Arctic. It is presented in partnership with the Arctic Leadership Initiative\, which fosters leadership through education\, dialogue\, and collaboration.\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\nVeronica Slajer is a trained communities and social performance professional with more than 30 years of experience in economic development\, community engagement\, stakeholder relations\, and matters affecting the Arctic\, rural communities\, and Indigenous peoples. Ms. Slajer holds a Masters of Rural Development degree with a concentration on community engagement in the mining and extractive industries. Ms. Slajer served on the U.S. Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)\, a federal advisory committee shaping a global standard to improve accountability for oil\, gas\, and mining revenues. A lifelong Alaskan\, Ms. Slajer resides in Anchorage\, Alaska\, and Washington\, D.C.\n\nArctic & Northern Studies at UAF\n\nUAF's Arctic and Northern Studies program offers interdisciplinary degrees that explore the history\, cultures\, governance\, and environment of the circumpolar North. Students develop deep regional knowledge while engaging with issues that matter to Alaska and the Arctic world.\n\nUAF Department of Political Science\n\nThe Department of Political Science prepares students to understand and engage with the forces shaping governance\, policy\, and political life in Alaska\, the nation\, and the world.
