DESCRIPTION:September in the Bear Gallery: Boreal Echoes by "In a Time of Change (ITOC)" collaborative arts-humanities-science program\n\n \n\nOn View: September 6-September 28\, 2024\n\nFirst Friday Opening Reception:\n\nFriday\, September 6\, 5 7 p.m.\n\n(Gallery opens at noon on First Fridays)\n\nThe Bear Gallery is located on the third floor of the Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts building in Pioneer Park\, 2300 Airport Way\, Fairbanks\, Alaska.\n\nStep into a captivating exploration of the boreal forest as the Fairbanks Arts Association proudly hosts the Boreal Echoes exhibit at the Bear Gallery\, showcasing a stunning fusion of art\, science\, and environmental insight.\n\nIn a Time of Change (ITOC) Program\n\nEstablished in 2007 by the Bonanza Creek Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) in Fairbanks\, Alaska\, the In a Time of Change (ITOC) program bridges the gap between the arts\, humanities\, and sciences to address ecological issues in Alaska. Supported by the National Science Foundation\, USDA Forest Service\, and private contributors\, ITOC fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance community engagement with the environment. Directed by UAF professor Mary Beth Leigh and evaluated by Lissy Goralnik from Michigan State University\, ITOC is part of a global network of environmental arts-humanities-science initiatives.\n\nBoreal Echoes Exhibit\n\nBoreal Echoes\, a new exhibit by ITOC\, showcases the results of three years of collaboration among artists inspired by the boreal forest. Building on the Boreal Forest Stories project\, artists engaged in field trips\, scientific presentations\, and craft talks to deepen their connection with the biome. Directed by Mary Beth Leigh and curated by Teresa Shannon and Alyssa Enriquez\, the exhibit features works by Susan Campbell\, Alyssa Enriquez\, Nancy Hausle-Johnson\, Mary Bee Kaufman\, Margo Klass\, Jennifer Moss\, Ree Nancarrow\, Oralee Nudson\, Teresa Shannon\, Todd Sherman\, Marianne Stolz\, Connie Stricks\, and Sara Tabbert.
