Re-Dedication of the Pedro Monument

The annual Pedro Monument Re-dedication Ceremony honors the discovery of gold in Alaska by Felix Pedro. The event will begin at 3:00 PM, near the spot Felix made the discovery (16 mile on the Steese Hwy). A short program will follow, featuring historian, Joan Skilbred, delivering the historical account of Alex Hanot, whose father and grandfather were mining partners and financial backers of Pedro. This entertaining account shares the important history of Felix Pedro as well as the discovery of gold in the Fairbanks Mining District. After the Hanot reading, there will be a laying of a wreath on the Pedro Monument honoring his contribution to our history, followed by refreshments. This event is sponsored by the Pioneers of Alaska Men's Igloo #4 and Women's Igloo #8.
