Don Hampton saw his first aurora at the tender age of 24 years, and has been smitten ever since. He received his PhD in Physics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, spent 10 years working at an aerospace corporation, returning to Alaska in 2006. His research uses ground and rocket-based measurements to understand how the aurora affects satellite communications, ground induced currents, and the dynamics of Earth's upper neutral atmosphere.
