Mock Oral Arguments: Mahmoud v. Taylor

Parents petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to allow their children to "opt-out" of teaching that involved LGBTQIA+ children's books. Listen to students, acting as lawyers, argue both sides of this case based on the actual pleadings (documents) filed with the U.S. Supreme Court. The parents assert their right to religious freedom under the Free Exercise clause of the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is being violated. The school administration and teachers argue there is no violation of the Free Exercise clause for exposing students to diverse characters in books.
